Email: The Identity Card of Your Binance Account

In Binance's security system, email plays a central role. It is not only one of the credentials you use to log in, but also the key channel for receiving security notifications, confirming withdrawal operations, and recovering your password. In short, the security of your email directly determines the security ceiling of your account.

I have seen too many users casually register with an email address they rarely use, only to find later — when they need to reset a password or complete a verification — that the email is no longer accessible. This tutorial will give you a complete guide covering email selection, binding, changing, and security hardening.

Choosing the Right Email

Before binding, let's talk about which email to choose. Not all email services are suitable for use with an exchange:

Recommended

  1. Gmail: High security, supports two-step verification, globally accessible
  2. Outlook / Hotmail: From Microsoft, with comprehensive security features
  3. ProtonMail: Privacy-focused, end-to-end encrypted

Not Recommended

  1. Temporary / disposable email addresses: May become invalid at any time
  2. Work email: Inaccessible after leaving the job
  3. Obscure email services: May have security vulnerabilities or shut down unexpectedly

Security Settings for Your Email Account

Regardless of which email you use, make sure to:

  • Enable two-step verification (2FA) for the email account
  • Set a strong, independent password (different from your Binance account password)
  • Regularly check the email's login history

Detailed Steps for Binding an Email

Binding at Registration

Most users already use an email to register a Binance account, so the email is automatically bound at that time. If you registered with a phone number, you will need to manually bind an email.

Manually Binding an Email

  1. Open the Binance APP and tap the avatar icon in the upper-left corner
  2. Go to the "Security" settings page
  3. Find the "Email Verification" option
  4. Tap "Enable" or "Bind"
  5. Enter the email address you want to bind
  6. Tap "Send Verification Code"
  7. Check your email for the 6-digit verification code (remember to check the spam folder)
  8. Enter the verification code in the Binance APP
  9. You will also need to pass any existing verification methods (e.g., SMS verification code)
  10. Tap "Submit" — binding is complete

Not Receiving the Verification Code?

  1. Check the spam folder: Binance emails are often classified as spam
  2. Whitelist Binance email addresses: Add [email protected] and [email protected] to your contacts
  3. Wait a few minutes: Emails may be delayed
  4. Check your email storage capacity: If the mailbox is full, new emails cannot be received
  5. Try a different email: If one email consistently does not receive the code, try another

Changing Your Bound Email

Case 1: The Old Email Is Still Accessible

  1. Go to "Security" → "Email Verification"
  2. Tap "Change"
  3. The system sends a verification code to the old email; enter it to verify
  4. Enter the new email address
  5. The system sends a verification code to the new email; enter it to verify
  6. Pass other security verifications (SMS / Google Authenticator)
  7. Confirm and submit

After the change is complete, there will be a 24-hour security freeze period during which the withdrawal function will be restricted. This is a protective mechanism.

Case 2: The Old Email Is No Longer Accessible

This is the most difficult situation and requires a customer support appeal:

  1. Go to the Help Center within the APP
  2. Select "Security Issue" → "Change Email"
  3. Submit identity verification materials:
    • Front and back photos of your ID card / passport
    • A selfie holding your ID card (with a piece of paper showing the current date and the word "Binance")
    • Supporting information such as account registration date and recent transaction history
  4. Wait for review (3–10 business days)
  5. Complete the new email binding after approval

Practical tip: When submitting materials, provide as much information as possible, such as your frequently used login IP addresses and recent deposit records. This can speed up the review process.

Email Security Hardening Guide

Binding your email is just the beginning. The following security hardening steps are equally important:

1. Enable Two-Step Verification for Your Email

Using Gmail as an example:

  1. Log in to your Google account settings
  2. Go to "Security"
  3. Enable "2-Step Verification"
  4. It is recommended to bind both a phone number and Google Authenticator

2. Check Email Forwarding Rules

An attacker may have set up email forwarding rules without your knowledge:

  1. Go to email settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  2. Confirm there are no forwarding addresses you do not recognize
  3. If there are any, delete them immediately and change your password

3. Check Third-Party App Permissions

  1. Go to email security settings
  2. View authorized third-party applications
  3. Remove all app authorizations you do not recognize or no longer use

4. Use a Dedicated Email

My personal approach is to register a dedicated email address used exclusively for cryptocurrency exchanges, not for any other website registrations or daily communications. The benefits are:

  • Reduces the risk of your email address being leaked
  • Reduces exposure to phishing emails
  • Makes it easier to identify unusual emails

Identifying Official Binance Emails

After binding your email, you will receive various emails from Binance. How do you distinguish official emails from phishing emails?

Official Sender Addresses

Characteristics of Phishing Emails

  1. Sender address with spelling variations (e.g., binannce.com, b1nance.com)
  2. Asking you to click a link and enter your password
  3. Creating a sense of urgency ("Your account will be frozen within 24 hours")
  4. Containing withdrawal confirmations for operations you never performed

The Most Effective Defense: Set Up an Anti-Phishing Code

Binance offers an anti-phishing code feature. Once set up, all official emails will contain your unique identifier code. Any email without this code can immediately be identified as a phishing email. For detailed setup instructions, refer to my separate tutorial on this topic.

Multi-Account Email Management Tips

If you use multiple exchanges simultaneously, I recommend:

  1. Using a different email address for each exchange
  2. Or using Gmail's alias feature (e.g., [email protected])
  3. Setting a different high-strength password for each email account
  4. Using a password manager to manage all credentials uniformly

Summary

Email is a critical link in the security chain of your Binance account. Choosing a reliable email provider, securing the email account itself, and learning to recognize phishing emails — doing these three things well gives your account a solid security foundation. If your current email has security vulnerabilities, follow this tutorial to make the switch as soon as possible.
